Slow Cooker Chili Coney Sauce
Nothing compliments an all beef hot dog on a bun then homemade Chili Coney Sauce! Easy to make in the slow cooker and comes out tasting like the real thing. Add a little shredded cheese and maybe even some diced onion and you have a hot dog!
I used my 5 quart slow cooker, this recipe can be done with any reasonably sized slow cooker. I find this recipe is great for birthday parties or other events where we are having simple hot dogs but I want to make the hot dogs exciting and more adult friendly.
The last time I made it, was for a large class gathering for one of my girls. One parent was bringing the hot dogs, another the buns, and I volunteered to bring the Coney sauce. The students are constantly hungry so this was a great way to fill them up. We could keep them refreshed for their performance. They even had a way for me to plug the slow cooker in so I was able to keep the sauce nice and warm. With the extra at home, I divided it up into several freezer gallon ziploc bags and froze it. Then just pulled out a package at a time when I knew we were having hot dogs. It just needed a day or two to thaw. I have a special board I use in my freezer that I can lay the bags onto when they are freezing so they freeze nice and flat. Just don’t forget to squeeze as much air out as possible, but also leave a bit of room because as it freezes it will take up more space. You do not want it ripping in the freezer.
