Slow Cooker Sweet Saucy Baked Beans

Slow Cooker Sweet Saucy Baked Beans has been a rich, delicious addition to our meals.  My husband enjoys it the most and even takes it to work with him to eat for lunch. It’s very filling, but is easy enough to use as a side dish.  It’s quite easy to put together.  Just lightly brown the sausage, a few cans of beans and a great combination of sweet and tangy sauces and pop some bacon and onion in and viola, you have a great baked bean dish!

You can use Polska Kielbasa instead of Smoked Sausage just slice the same and lightly brown.  I used Black Beans because it gives an amazing color with the pork and beans but feel free to swap it to a different bean if your family prefers.

I made this in my 7 quart slow cooker and I needed a frying pan, cutting board, knives, measuring cups and spoons.  I keep all of these ingredients on hand in my pantry except the Smoked Sausage, as they’re a staple in our home. That is one of the ways I try to stay frugal.  Have those staples on hand so that you don’t need extra trips to the store, and can cook from home more often.

  • 1 Can (16 oz) Black Beans Rinsed and Drained
  • 1 Medium Yellow Onioin, chopped
  • 1/2 Cup Ketchup
  • 1/3rd Cup Brown Sugar, packed
  • 1/4th Cup Molasses
  • 1/2 Cup BBQ Sauce
  • 1/2 Cup Maple Syrup
  • 2 Tablespoons Mustard
  • 1 Tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 Tablespoon Steak Sauce
  • 4 Slices Bacon, Cooked and chopped (I used precooked bacon)

Instructions

  • Slice the Smoked Sausage in 1/8" slices and gently brown in a frying pan. (You can also brown the chopped yellow onion at this point if you choose).
  • Pour the Sausage, Onions and beans in the crock.
  • Add Ketchup, Brown Sugar, Molasses, BBQ Sauce.
  • Next add Maple Syrup, Mustard, Steak Sauce, Apple Cider Vinegar and the Bacon.
  • Mix well and cook on high for 4-5 hours or 7-8 hours on low. Keep an eye on it, if it looks like it's overcooking feel free to put it on low, stir a few times or cook for less time. These ingredients are just warming up and softening, nothing is raw.
