Slow Cooker Island Kielbasa

Polish sausage (aka Kielbasa) is one of my daughter’s favorite foods. When they were little, they couldn’t say Polish sausage, so they called them “mommy hotdogs”. To me, cooked they have a slight salty flavor. In this appetizer, they are cooked with the sweetness of the brown sugar and pineapple which gives you an end result of salty and sweet.

I like to sear the sliced Kielbasa in a skillet before placing them in the slow cooker. To me, this brings out the flavors in the Kielbasa.

This is a very tasty appetizer. Serve with toothpicks with one piece of Kielbasa and one piece of pineapple. Best of both worlds in one little bite.

Frugal tips:

  • Most canned goods go on sale at some point during the year. Sometimes, two and three times during the year. Decide what is a good price, and purchase a few cans of pineapple to keep in your pantry for later use.
  • Fresh pineapple can be canned in jars. If you have the supplies and time, bulk purchasing fresh pineapple and canning the fruit is easy to do and tastes much better!
  • Store bulk purchases of brown sugar in food safe buckets in a cool dry place. These buckets with lids can be obtained from the bakery in most stores some for free, some for a small price.
