  • 2 Cans (16 oz) Red Beans or Chili or Pinto rinsed and drained
  • 1 Can (15 oz) Kidney Beans rinsed and drained
  • 1 Can (16 oz) Navy Beans or Garbonzo or Great Northern Beans
  • 6 Cups Chicken Broth or Stock
  • 1 Cup Water
  • 1 Ham Bone or Ham Hock Ham Bone can have ham on it.
  • 1 Yellow Onion, chopped
  • 1/2 Cup Maple Syrup
  • 1/2 Cup Ketchup
  • 1/2 Cup Brown sugar
  • 1/4th Cup BBQ Sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons Mustard, prepared
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt You may want to wait till the end and taste test before adding Salt.
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Pepper
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 1-1 1/2 Cups Diced ham, Precooked Packaged Ham or cut from a larger ham like spiral ham.

Instructions

  • Rinse/Drain Cans of beans. Pour into Slow Cooker. Chop Onions and pour in. Add 6 cups of Broth and 1 cup water.
  • Add the Bay Leaves, Pepper, Maples Syrup, Ketchup, Mustard, Brown Sugar, BBQ Sauce and Pepper. Mix well.
  • Add the Ham Bone, Ham Shank, or Ham Hock. Cook on Low for 4-6 hours. An hour before serving, taste test before adding salt and add if needed. Add the diced ham. Before serving remove the ham hock or ham bone and the bay leaves. You can use the meat off of the ham bone to keep in the slow cooker but it may have a consistency that feels overcooked, thus why adding new diced ham works better.
